Prince William and Kate Middleton’s two oldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, have developed a very close friendship, People is reporting this week. The 6-year-old heir to the throne and his 4-year-old sister have come to rely on each other, a source explained, because they both get what it’s like to be royal.
“They are close in age, and they spend so much time together,” an insider told the outlet. “Playdates [with outsiders] can be tricky, so they learn to lean on each other.”
Charlotte is the “more outgoing” of the two, a source said, while George is “more reserved.” Charlotte is also ecstatic about joining George at his school Thomas’s Battersea this fall.
“She can’t wait to be with George at big school,” the insider said. “She is so excited about it all.”
Charlotte and George were out together last week to watch their parents’ sailing competition. They were photographed giggling together at one point:
They were also photographed together in their mother’s Chelsea Flower Show garden. Kensington Palace shared several portraits of them playing in the garden together, giving the world a rare glimpse at their bond in action:
Both Charlotte and George are close to their mother, the Duchess of Cambridge. A source told ELLE.com earlier this year that whenever Kate comes back from an event or from being out, they “come running out the front door and they’re like, ‘Mummy, mummy, mummy.’ Nanny’s in the door, but they don’t care because Mummy’s come home. They’re so excited that their mum is back from wherever.”
