It’s late July, and chances are that you—a normal human being living a regular human life—are probably still recovering from that intense heat wave that, at best, left you sweating and desperate for iced coffee, and at worst, left you without any power. But that’s just the real world! Over at the White House, First Lady Melania Trump is focusing on a much chillier, much more pressing issues: Christmas.
That’s right, Melania is already planning Christmas, five months ahead of schedule. She recently tweeted a few photos of her planning process, writing, “#Christmas planning has begun in the East Wing at the @WhiteHouse. I’m looking forward to sharing our final vision for this unique tradition in the coming months.” The photos clearly show Melania inspecting fabric swatches and fake flowers, as well as what seem to be some decor inspiration photos. (If the photos were taken on the same day as the tweet, it also means that Melania was probably planning this very important celebration all while Robert Mueller was testifying in front of the Judiciary Committee. Love a good distraction.)
While the timing is admittedly a little bizarre (read the room, Melania!), it’s no secret that our First Lady loves to decorate for Christmas. As noted by ELLE.com’s expert analyst R. Eric Thomas, past themes for Christmas at the White House could be described as “Fear!” and “The Shining.”
In 2017, there were those creepy white, barren trees:
And in 2018, the white trees were replaced by some seemingly MAGA-inspired, red trees:
It’s hard to tell what theme Melania is planning on choosing from the photos she tweeted, unless those fake gold flowers she’s holding are a clue of the very merry gilded Christmas to come. I suppose we will have to wait five months to see. In the meantime, I’ll be over here with a jumbo fan and a popsicle.
